AIDS-the political disease

Why are we spending so many tax payer dollars on HIV and AIDS? This is a totally preventable disease, but it gets more federal dollars than any other disease. There is nothing I can do to prevent getting cancer or an autoimmune disease, therefore I would hope that federal dollars would be used to find a cure or treatment to prolong life and ease suffering of diseases that are not preventable. How lucky for those that choose to engage in risky behavior that our government will be there time and time again to help clean up their mistakes.
